Joyce was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Royal Air Force as a Wireless operator from 1940 to 1945. She met her husband in 1942, was married in 1943 and returned to Newfoundland with him at the end of the war - 1945. Joyce became active in War Brides Association, Beta Sigma Phi, and I.O.D.E., and worked with Newfoundland Drama Association (Avion Players of Gander. She loved flowers and gardening.

SAUNDERS, Joyce Mary


- 82 of Waverley, N.S. formerly of Gander, Nfld, Passed peacefully away on March 19, 2001 in Florida with her family at her side. Born in England, she was the daughter of William and Alice Bull of Birmingham. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roy; sons Bill (Shirley) of Clearwater, Fla; John (Martina) of Dartmouth and Susan of Waverley; grandchildren, Christopher and Jillian; brother William (Valerie) and sister, Maureen (Gordon) reside in England. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Statacona Chapel, Gottengen St., Halifax on Saturday, May 19th at 1 p.m. Padre Thorne officiating.
