She met her husband in 1942, was married in 1943 and returned to Newfoundland with him at the end of the war - 1945. Joyce became active in War Brides Association, Beta Sigma Phi, and I.O.D.E., and worked with Newfoundland Drama Association (Avion Players of Gander. She loved flowers and gardening.
