My grandmother travelled to Canada on the ship Melita in September 1919. On
board was a war bride and her husband who were travelling to St. John's,
Newfoundland - Ralph and Violet Thistle. I have attached Ralph's Attestation
papers. It shows he joined the 15th Battalion. I checked the nominal role
for the 15th Battalion and it shows he was a Stretcher Bearer (Str-Bearer)
with A Company when he left Canada to go to the Front. According to the
returning passenger list he was later transferred to the Canadian Army
Medical Corps (CAMC) as a Regimental Sergeant-Major .
The passenger list shows that Violet was born in the USA but had never been
to Canada before. They were married in England in 1917 (see below).
